Best Horror Movies of All Time
Are you ready to be scared silly? From dolls to exorcisms, to ghosts and supernatural forces that keeps us up at night. We’ve collated our staff’s Top picks for our version of our Best Horror Movies of All Time.
Veronica is a film that cautions its viewers about why we shouldn’t mess with the supernatural or the unknown, even if we don’t believe in them. The movie was so scary that some of our staff had to stop watching mid-way through it.
The Sixth Sense
The Sixth Sense – one of M. Night’s best. This is by far one of our bosses’ favorite films. It shows how old he is. But for the sake of those who haven’t watched it yet, we’d rather not talk about anything regarding its synopsis. Just be warned that even if it’s not a jump-scare type of movie, it will surely send chills down your spine.
The Nun is part of the Conjuring series of movies, and personally it is one of the best because of how well they crafted each scary scene. It’s full of jump-scares and they work mostly because the audio is so good. It’s a must-watch if you’re into these kinds of movies.
Child’s Play is one of those 80s horror flicks that are best watched with friends. It’s not scary per se, but its “ghorrific” scenes will put off many and delight a few. It’s so nasty, that it’s good.
Annabelle is another classic which will make you look away more times than you’d want to. It’s so chilling that after watching, you may box away your dolls for quite some time.
Ju-On (The Grudge)
Ju-On or The Grudge has been one of the precursors to Japanese and Asian horror fame. It has garnered such a following that a western version has been released. But the original has always been the best.
The Shining is a hallmark in film-making and story-telling. It’s not just a horror, it’s a damn good movie. Watch it and marvel at how horror should be.
Shutter is a Thai horror movie which has some of the best twists at the time. The story was so unique especially for the Asian horror genre. The movie had us covering our eyes during some pre-jump-scare scenes. The level of editing and story-telling are just so top-notch that it would be a crime if you miss watching this great flick.
The Ring is the OG horror movie that introduced the Western world to the nightmarish world of the Asian/Japanese horror genre. The film and its disturbing nature is not just a great watch but also features that classic Japanese over-the-top acting which are at time ridiculously funny. Nonetheless, scenes are still brutally scary, especially if you’re alone watching it.
I am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House
That is a long title, yes. But to be honest – this movie is probably on the top 5 scariest movies on our staffs’ lists. It’s indirectly scary – and that is what makes it work. The scenes are so well made and only hints you with an impending dread, waiting for something horrifying to appear each time. On some scenes, you’ll wonder if you’re actually seeing something or if you’re just imagining it. It’s a horror movie that will haunt your senses, as well as your thoughts.
Last but certainly not the least – the Exorcist. This is definitely a classic. If you haven’t watched it yet, what rock have you been hiding under? Jokes aside, yes – it’s dated and some of the makeup work did not age well. But this is the hallmark of “exorcism” movies and have paved way for the current horror movies we enjoy. You won’t regret watching it.
Now that you’ve seen what we liked, maybe you can check them out and judge for yourself if they’re worthy to be on our list. That is if you’re brave enough? Happy Halloween!
